That’s what Dr. Eric Heiden does for his athletes and patients. Check out the New York Times article today on the former Olympic Champion speed skater, Tour de France cyclist and now orthopedic surgeon to Olympic hopefuls.

As an athlete at the Olympic Training Center, I was (un)lucky enough to have Dr. Heiden oversee some of my therapy for on-going overuse injuries. Unlike other doctors I worked with prior to that, I knew that Heiden “got it”. The guy, afterall, had gone places in his sport I could only hope to in mine.

Sport needs more individuals like Dr. Eric Heiden. I look forward to more articles about him as we close this Olympiad in 2010.
