Training for a triathlon in NYC: Finding a Pool

Earlier this week I posted about the cool “fly-over” feature that the organizers of the Facebookhave installed on their site. This feature is great because it allows competitors and spectators of the listing of pools to preview the swim, bike and run course.

Let’s face it, New York does not have much in the way of “swimmable” waterfront, making training for a triathlon in the city, like many other things, a challenge. When and while in the city, I swim at Riverbank State Park as it is easily accessible from the UWS and offers a 50m indoor and 25yd outdoor pool. The entire facilty is actually a gem:

I’ve also swam at The Equinox, Asphalt Green, The SoHo House, Chelsea Piers, Columbia University, Lasker Pool in Central Park (the locker room is an adventure in itself), NYSC on Wall St and the Endless Pool at listing of pools in TriBeCa. I’m always curious to know what New Yorkers (those without a pool in their building) find to be the best, most affordable pools in the city. Recently on Facebook, one of my “friends” updated that she was sneaking into a hotel pool for a workout…creative.

As the NYC Triathlon approaches and training gets into full swing, finding a pool to swim in is a must. ┬áHere’s a convenient listing of pools I found online. I hope it helps.
